It's no secret that we all love when brides pair a veil with their wedding dress, and truth be told usually when anyone thinks of a bride; you envision a veil on her head. A wedding veil is angelic, soft, romantic, and your veil should compliment your dress, enhance your wedding day look, or as we like to say "finish" you. Just the other day I had a bride come in with her older sister (whom I sold a dress to 5 years ago) and after a fun, and lively appointment the bride said yes to her dress and it was time to look at bridal accessories! When I asked her if she wanted to try a veil with her dress she flat out told me she was not planning on wearing a veil. When I tell you this bride wouldn't hear of it, let me tell you; she was not having it. Now I hear this often, and sometimes when brides picture a wedding veil they envision a scene from "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" where the main character's veil takes up what seems like the entire back of the limo and this horrifying image is now burned into their memory of what a wedding veil looks like. But veils today look nothing like that! I stood by as her older sister begged her to try veils with her dress, and admitted to me that looking back at her wedding photos her biggest regret was that she didn't wear a veil with her dress (I told you so?) . Bound and determind not to let her younger sister make the same mistake, and after a it of bickering between sisters she finally agreed to try a veil. The moment that veil went on her head, her sister, her mother, her mother in law, and even the bride began to cry. I'm not sure if it was the vision of seeing herself for the first time really looking "finished", or maybe it was the first time it hit all of them that... this is really happening, she's getting married. After trying 5 or 6 veils she chose one that suited both her dress, and her personal style perfectly and the decision was made. This bride was wearing a veil! There are many reasons for wearing a veil other than just to finish your bridal look. In ancient Greece and Rome the veil was used as protection against evil spirits as the bride walks down the aisle. These days the veil doesn't always cover the face, in fact in many modern wedding the veil only covers the head and a portion of the back of the head. Veils can be long and elaborate, short and simple, and even full and fluffy. While historically veils have been known to be pure white, with the ever changing colors of wedding dresses, today they come in shades of ivory, diamond white, gold, blush, champagne, and even pink! There are also multiple length veils that you can wear! Thanks to movies like "Sweet Home Alabama" Reese Witherspoon single handedly introduced the world to the beauty of a birdcage style veil, which can be made out of a classic tulle, or a more spaced out tulle such as "Russian tulle". Flyaway veils and shoulder length veils are the hardest to find, mostly because when people put on this length I often hear the comment that they feel ridiculous. Elbow length veils, finger tip length veils, and cathedral length veils are the most popular these days, as these styles go with mostly any style wedding dress. Check out the veil styles below, there are so many edgings, veil styles, and lengths to choose from! Let your bridal consultant pull the perfect veil for you, we have a feeling you just may love it!
